Export decline 2010-07-06
Nepal is facing decline in chief exportable articles. Handicrafts, silver jewelry, woolen carpets, Nepali paper, readymade garments, herbs, Pashmina are the chief exportable articles.
In comparison to the nine months of last year, current year is facing decline in 16 articles; a chief aid in export trade.
The export is declining not because of lack of demand but of the unstable political condition, labor unrest and load shedding. Producers have not been able to meet the timeframe of the demand due to these factors.
In comparison to past financial year, this year faced excessive befall in iron, steel tubes and pipes. Chief exportable products (carpets and readymade garments) from Nepal to Europe and America have also declined. Similarly, current nine months have shown decline in Pashmina shawls, herbal oils, herbs, toothpaste, juice, silver ornaments, lentils, handicrafts, textile and copper appliances.
Nepal exports carpets to America, Germany, UK, India, Australia, Canada, Belgium and other countries. America, Germany, France, UK and Canada are considered as worthy market for readymade garments whereas America, UK, France, Italy, Germany and India for Pashmina.
