Workshop on EIF for poor Asian nations 2010-06-21 — 2010-06-23
The government is hosting a three-day sub-regional workshop on Enhanced Integrated Framework (EIF) starting Monday in Kathmandu. The workshop, organized in partnership with the United Nations Development Program and the Integrated Framework Executive Secretariat in the WTO, aims at helping Asia’s poorest countries benefit more from world trade, while it aims to lift more people across the region out of poverty. The workshop will see the participation of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Maldives and Yemen along with ITC, UNCTAD, UNDP, UNIDO, UNOPS, and the World Bank, the WTO, bilateral donors and the Asian Development Bank. T he workshop forms a part of a wider trade and development program that is currently assisting 47 Least Developed Countries worldwide. The Enhanced Integrated Framework is a multi-donor program which supports Least Developed Countries to be more active players in the global trading system by helping them tackle obstacles to trade. The workshop will provide platforms to discuss how the EIF process can support the greater Aid for Trade agenda and trade policy development. The government will also launch Nepal’s Diagnostic Trade Integration Study update (DTIS) on the last day of the workshop.
