Federation of Handicraft Associations of Nepal (FHAN)

Federation of Handicraft Associations of Nepal (FHAN) was established in 1972 to enhance and promote handicraft trade and industry. It is registered under Institution Registration Act of Nepal. It is a service oriented non-profit organization of private sector business and artisan community. It helps its members to improve their productivity, explore markets and introduce them to the international arena. Its main objective is to work towards steady growth of handicraft trade and industry.
Human resources
FHAN has an elected board of 21 members, a moderate secretariat staff numbering to 26 persons and more than 20 functional and product development committees.

Expertise, beneficiaries and major activities
FHAN works for the benefit of Nepalese handicraft enterprises. Its beneficiaries are artisans, producers, dealers and exporters. Its major activities include:
- Certification of export invoices for handicraft products
- Certification of handicraft products made from the parts of domestic animals
- Organize seminars, symposiums and conferences on various topics relevant to strengthening the handicraft trade & industry.
- Organize exhibition and trade fairs to highlight handicraft products & create public awareness in its usage.
- Explore additional markets for the handicraft products.
- Institute award in recognition of highest export and best craftsmanship.
- Arrange participation in international trade fairs & exhibitions
- Publication of news bulletins, books, catalogues, members' directory and other materials relevant to promote handicraft trade & industry.
- Offer design related services through Handicraft Design and Development Center
Projects
FHAN is involved in SM Link project as a Partner Organization. The project has envisaged FHAN to be the focal point for implementing handicraft enterprises' capacity development programs. Furthermore, the project has entrusted FHAN to implement Handicraft Trade Fairs in Nepal for three years.
FHAN is involved in various projects in the past and present. ECIBON is a project for enhancing capacity of intermediary business organizations to do business Europe. FHAN has involved its member associations for their capacity building.

Strategy for the coming years
FHAN has been recently converted into a Federation. Its major concern is to strengthen its member Associations to deliver services in the direction of enhanced export of handicraft products.
